Detailed description of Cyprian Keyes Golf Club, Championship Course

Cyprian Keyes Golf Club is a Public 27 hole golf facility located in Boylston, Massachusetts. The facility has their 18-hole The Championship Course and their 9-hole The Par-3 Course.

The courses opened in 1997 and were designed by Mark Mungeam.

The Championship Course ____________

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,844 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,079 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 547 yards. The shortest holes on the course are# 9 and #16, both par-3s that play to 190 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 7, a 416 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course according to the score card. The easiest hole is # 16, one of the 190 yard par-3s.

Some think that #. 14 on presents the greatest challenge. The hole ranges between 450 and 370 yards and is a slight dogleg left. From White tees the hole plays 406 yards, and a pond is strategically placed about 240 yards off the tee. If you are fortunate enough to hit a good shot, you have about 165 yards left to a large green with two separate shelves. Just left of the green is trouble, and two bunkers guard the left side of the green. If you hit this green in regulation you still have work to do. Many small hidden breaks make this the most difficult birdie on the entire course.

The Par-3 Course ____________

The Par-3 Course at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club is a great place to sharpen you short game and to warm up for The Championship Course.

Par for the course is 27. The course plays to 1,260 yards. The longest holes on the course are # 3 and #9, both 165 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 4, a par-3 that plays to 105 yards.

Horribly narrow fairways with hitting over extensive swamps on the 1st and 10th holes. Not well suited for the average league player without adequate warm up time before hitting. Exceptionally unfair for mixed leagues as the majority, if not all, of the tee shots over water or swamps for the forward tees are eliminated. It completely changes the challenge of the holes. For a straight hitter, and distance is not needed, it is a very good course. Unfortunately, my partners and I have experienced hitting good shots and having erratic bounces off the fairways or slopes ending up in hazards. Since almost all the woods, undergrowth and wetlands are inpenetrable, the ball is lost and a 1-2 stroke penalty is incurred. There are many challenging courses in the immediate area that provide as much degree of difficulty without the punishment for mishit shots.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby

I like the course very much; have to keep the ball in play. Not a fan of the off the fairway areas; a lot of rocks and areas where I would not attempt to swing my new clubs; and I wasn't that far off the fairway. Need some grooming in those areas. Very challenging course; must keep the bal in play. Ability to move the ball both left and right on the holes is an advantage. Great test. Love the course.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area

Yes it's basically target golf, but there are ample tees to choose from for any golfing experience. If you find it very difficult go practice or use the right set of tees, it's a top notch course and value in the area, especially for seniors.

Is target golf, youjust have to plan your shots carefully. Sometimes it pays to keep the Big-Dog in the bag...

Not a big fan of the layout. Staff is great, great practice facility and restaurant is very good. Not fair to rank conditions, because played it early in the year. I don't mind target golf, but EVERY tee shot puts you under the gun and for most amateurs they need a few holes to let out the shaft. Par threes are excellent and worth playing the course just for that.
